Ali Powers' latest work is as sound designer and composer for Madefire.
Ali has twenty years experience as a composer and performing musician, with several hundred songs to his credit. His work has featured in various films; including The Scar Crow (winner of the best horror/sci-fi feature at the 2009 London Independent Film Festival), in numerous shorts such as This Side of the After-Life (shown at the 2011 Raindance Festival).
He contributed both score and songs for the soundtrack of forthcoming feature film The Passing Place. Ali composes and performs in a wide variety of styles, using a range of real and often unusual instruments, to capture the sense of characters and situations. He has performed at venues across the UK: from central London to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, as well as appearing on BBC Radio and Channel 4 TV.
Ali created artworks for the feature film Unmade Beds (nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival (2009), winner of the Quebec Film Critics Award, and the Audience Award at the Linz Festival). He enjoys working in a variety of media and is currently working on several animation formats.
His experience as a writer, director, actor, and composer has led to him contributing to more than a dozen short films, including Michaelangelo’s Heroes, which won a BBC New Talent Award in 2006, recently performing in Edinburgh. As a writer his short story The Wormcast featured in the award-winning graphic novel anthology, Event Horizon, in 2005 and 2006.
